Server software upgrade

Step by step how-to instructions on installing and running KoBo Toolbox on a standalone server.

To update the Host OS, refresh the repositories and perform the upgrade:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get upgrade

Setting up the automatic updates

$ sudo apt install unattended-upgrades

Adjust the initial section of the configuration file; we prefer to have only the security updates applied automatically. All other updates will be done manually. Please bear in mind that any update to server software changes the Kobo Docker operating environment.

$ sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades
Unattended-Upgrade::Allowed-Origins {
// “${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-updates”;
// “${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-proposed”;
// “${distro_id}:${distro_codename}-backports”;
$ sudo nano /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic
APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists “1”;
APT::Periodic::Download-Upgradeable-Packages “1”;
APT::Periodic::AutocleanInterval “7”;
APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade “1”;

The final line actually enables automatic software upgrades on the Host, as configured previously.
